The emphasis on ISI-marked helmets highlights the commitment to ensuring safety for two-wheeler riders, and reducing the risk of head injuries during accidents, said officials from the transport department’s enforcement section.
The directorate of transport organised an awareness program at the Kadamba Circle in Panaji on Monday to highlight the significance of road safety during the 12th Road Safety Week by urging motorists to wear ISI-certified helmets by distributing them free of cost to violators.
“We have ordered a large number of ISI-marked helmets which we shall distribute in at least 10 different locations across Goa. None of the violaters will be penalised during this awareness drive,” said assistant director of transport enforcement for North Goa, Cedric Cordeiro.
The directorate’s proactive approach was well-received by riders who were stopped and educated about the ISI-certified helmets.
The assistant director of transport, Bicholim, also staged street plays and awareness campaigns through students to highlight road safety in Bicholim and Sattari taluka. In Valpoi, students from Government College, Sanquelim, and Shantai Group, Sanquelim, conducted skits on streets on the importance of road safety.
