Automotive. Lacking parts, Stellantis Rennes soon to be shut down for a week

The Stellantis site in Janais will suspend production from October 30 to November 5. After supply difficulties with electronic components in 2021 and 2022, industrial parts are now in short supply

The Stellantis factory in Janais near Rennes will have to interrupt its production of 5008 and C5 Aircross. From October 30 to November 5, the 2,100 employees will again experience a week of partial unemployment, indicates the management of the Breton site.

This time, it is no longer like in 2021 and 2022 a semiconductor shortage coming from abroad which is in question. But a difficulty in supplying industrial parts, such as brake discs, parts manufactured in France on the Sept-Fons site in Allier in particular.

This production stoppage announced a month ago in CSE is not a first this year either, recalls Nadine Cormier of Force Ouvrière.

“These industrial parts supply concerns have already impacted La Janais. In September, the site closed for 2 days. Other factories in France were also affected. But now, for three weeks, we have had to contact a toll-free number in the morning to find out if we are working in the afternoon, and in the evening to find out if we are working the next day.”

According to the CFDT, “Sept-Fons would not be the only factory which supplies parts to La Janais to experience production problems. There is in fact an accumulation of problems”, summarizes Laurent Valy. “Both in terms of supply, but also in compliance. With a lot of vehicles in stock, 2000 of which will undoubtedly have to be reworked.” The Breton site produces 400 cars every day.
