Citroën reveals all-new ë-c3, an affordable electric crossover

Citroën has revealed the all-new ë-C3 – an electric variant of its C3 crossover. Marking a new chapter for the Stellantis brand, the EV will help it provide an affordable electric mobility solution. Here, Citroën utilized a new version of Stellantis’ flexible Smart Car platform to facilitate the EV’s accessible starting price of €23,300 ($24,669).

Leveraging a 44 kWh LFP battery pack, the ë-C3 offers a maximum driving range of 199 miles (320 km) and up to 100 kW fast-charging on DC, enabling a recharge from 20 to 80 percent in 26 minutes. On standard AC, a 20% to 80% recharge is expected to take around 4 hours and 10 minutes with 7 kW, or 2 hours and 50 minutes using 11 kW. As standard, the EV is equipped with a Model 3 charging cable to help drivers access home and public AC charging facilities. The cable is also compatible with either a single-phase 7.4 kW or three-phase 11 kW wall box. In terms of performance, the EV’s 113hp (83kW) motor and automatic transmission allows it to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in around 11 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 84 mph (135 km/h). Through this setup, Citroën is aiming for the new ë-C3 to handle everyday driving and traffic scenarios, particularly within urban and suburban environments.

Inside, the ë-C3 features Citroën’s C-Zen lounge, a spacious interior offering an array of standard equipment and technologies. Included in this equipment is a new Citroën Head Up Display that reflects vehicle information onto a glossy black section which sits between the top of the dash panel and the bottom of the windscreen. This solution ensures there is no duplication of information, while helping drivers access key vehicle information without taking their eyes off the road.

The core infotainment setup depends on which of the two trends the customer selects. Standard on the ë-C3’s ‘You’ models is My Citroën Play with Smartphone Station – which features a built-in smartphone holder that allows drivers to dock their device and auto launch a dedicated smartphone app that leverages NFC. Through the app, owners can use their device to access shortcuts to the ë-C3’s Phone, Radio, Navigation and Music App services. The steering wheel controls ensure drivers keep their hands on the wheel, while the ‘Home’ button makes it easy to navigate back to the homepage of the app.

Provided on ‘Max’ version of the EV is My Citroën Drive with 10” Touchscreen, a 10.25-inch color screen that uses smartphone-inspired widgets to enable access to key navigation, phone, radio, IVI apps and media functions through virtual shortcuts. Wireless Wi-Fi capability enables smartphone mirroring functionality and compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The central infotainment screen is host to a variety of connectivity solutions, including a new e-ROUTES App. Designed for Citroën’s EVs and offered as part of its ‘Connect Plus’ service subscription package, it allows users to plan journeys while monitoring their charging status and battery level in real-time. Using the MyCitroën smartphone app, ë-C3 drivers will also be able to manage charging schedules, remotely pre-heat or pre-cool the vehicle, and check its current battery level and location. Both versions of the new ë-C3 and their respective standard infotainment system levels (My Citroen Play with Smartphone Station, My Citroën Drive with 10” touchscreen) are compatible with the e-ROUTES app.

Alongside the ë-C3’s standard equipment, Citroën will offer two connected service packages – Connect One and Connect Plus – both of which are provided at the point of purchase through a complimentary one-year trial. Connect One offers immediate access to e-Call and Citroën Assistance, tele-maintenance services and a digital booklet, while Connect Plus offers real-time traffic information to ensure drivers choose the optimal route for journeys – with alternate routes calculated and suggested based on anticipated traffic flows, ongoing jams, or congestion. Customers can sign up to one or both levels of Connected Services subscriptions to make the most of their system online, through their MyCitroën account, or through the MyCitroën app.
