Waymo has announced a new lightweight simulator platform called Waymax, designed specifically for autonomous driving research. The simulator represents an important resource for evaluating autonomous driving systems and expands the possibilities of AI research.
Waymo has faced complex challenges in the field of the last ten years Artificial intelligence and machine learning in the context of autonomous driving, robotics and computer vision. You’ve already been through this Waymo Open Dataset and academic publications contributed to the research community. Waymax offers a new level of collaboration and enables research in simulation and planning for autonomous vehicles.
The simulator is lightweight and allows researchers to experiment efficiently and iterate quickly. It is based on extensive real-world data, including 570+ hours of real driving data, and is hardware accelerated, enabling fast simulations. Waymax supports multi-agent research and enables the analysis of complex behaviors of multiple road users.
Researchers can use Waymax software on GitHub and benefit from pre-built simulation tools to accelerate their research. Waymo is committed to continually improving the platform and expects new results from the use of Waymax in the research community.
