Some 7,700 vehicles drove out of Ahmedabad showrooms on the auspicious muhurat of Dhanteras on Friday. Estimates by Federation of Automobile Dealers’ Association (FADA) Gujarat indicate that about 5,500 two-wheelers and 2,200 cars were delivered in the city.
Gujarat overall showed good vehicle sales on the muhurat day with 25,000 two-wheelers and 8,500 cars retailed in a single day across the state. Against last year’s Dhanteras, FADA estimates indicate that both two-wheelers and car sales clocked about 12% rise.
Explaining reasons, Pranav Shah, former chariman, FADA Gujarat, said, “Even though the two-wheeler segment posted a 12% growth, the overall demand was not as expected. This is mainly due to delayed salary bonus in addition to the RTO’s new norms according to which dealers cannot sell their inventory without obtaining a registration number for the vehicle. Last-minute deliveries were not possible on account of higher turnaround time for motorcycle and gearless scooter due to registration requirements.”
“On the other hand, reduction in waiting period due to easing of the semiconductor supply constraints has led to a decent inventory for cars.
“As a result, sales remained good. The demand for SUVs continued to remain high,” Shah further went on to say.
