Bitkom surveyed people in Germany about the topic of “autonomous driving”. As a result, people hope above all for safety and environmental protection.
The majority of the German population sees autonomous mobility, be it by train, car, plane or ship, as having primarily positive effects on the environment. According to a representative survey by the Digital Association Bitkom Among 1,003 people aged 16 and over in Germany, 64 percent of those surveyed consider it to be lower Ecological damage, through lower CO2 emissions and optimal routing, as one of the biggest advantages of self-driving vehicles. In second place with 54 percent is lower noise pollution, followed by improved Traffic flow with 48 percent. Nevertheless, 15 percent of those surveyed see no advantages in autonomous mobility.
Bitkom Managing Director Dr. Bernhard Rohleder emphasizes that autonomous mobility is still in an early development phase, but can already offer enormous benefits for people and the environment. Safety is seen as one of the biggest advantages, although accidents in public are rare perception dominate.
In terms of concerns, 88 percent of those surveyed expressed concern about unclear legal framework conditions and Liability issues. Technical problems (60 percent), the possibility of hacker attacks (57 percent) as well as high investment costs in the Infrastructure (50 percent) are cited as further obstacles to autonomous driving. A significant proportion (40 percent) also trust human driving skills more than technology and do not want to miss out on the fun of self-driving (39 percent). Only 8 percent see no disadvantages in self-driving vehicles.
