Mahindra Tractors, India’s leading tractor brand, unveiled its first CNG mono-fuel tractor on its popular Yuvo tractor platform, at Agrovision, Nagpur, Central India’s largest Agri Summit.
The unveiling took place on the inaugural day of the four-day summit in the presence of Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Road, Transport, and Highway, Government of India.
Leveraging its extensive expertise in developing dedicated CNG-powered vehicles, Mahindra prioritises optimal emission control, performance, and operational cost efficiency, noted the press release. Developed and tested at Mahindra Research Valley, Chennai, the new Mahindra CNG tractor offers power and performance at par with diesel-run tractors, setting new benchmarks in alternative engine technology for agriculture.
Notably eco-friendly, the CNG tractor significantly reduces emissions by nearly 70% compared to diesel tractors. Lower engine vibrations contribute to decreased noise levels, measuring 3.5db lower than diesel tractors. This enhancement not only facilitates extended working hours and engine life but also ensures enhanced operator comfort, catering to both farm and non-farm applications, the press release noted.
Equipped with CNG technology, the tractor adeptly handles various agricultural and haulage applications, matching the capabilities of existing diesel tractors. Mahindra’s CNG tractor features four tanks with a water capacity of 45 litres each, or 24kg of gas on-board, filled at 200-bar pressure. Anticipated savings of Rs 100 per hour over diesel tractors further underscore its economic appeal.
Mahindra envisions launching CNG tractors after a thorough assessment of market readiness and the response to this pioneering technology.
