On the tenth episode of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS), a key area of focus has been the Green Hydrogen and Green Energy Sector across the VGGS Roadshows and Delegation Visits.

To incentivize investments in the green hydrogen domain, the Government of Gujarat has introduced a land allotment policy offering benefits to companies engaged in green hydrogen projects. Mandating substantial milestones, companies are required to meet specific green hydrogen production capacity criteria within defined time frames to encourage rapid growth in the sector.

The series of discussions held between the Government of Gujarat and international players from France, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Singapore, and domestic entities specializing in energy and green hydrogen from Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, and Chandigarh have outlined opportunities available in Gujarat for collaboration and investment.

Gujarat presently contributes around 15% to India’s Renewable Energy capacity and aims to source 50% of its energy from renewable sources as part of the Renewable Energy Policy 2023, thus supporting India’s target of reducing carbon emissions by 45% by 2030.

Several companies have shown keen interest in investing in various sub-sectors, encompassing alternative fuels production, technology solutions infrastructure, lithium-ion battery manufacturing, solar PV modules manufacturing, decarbonization initiatives, and green hydrogen production. Danish Maritime companies have expressed interest in procuring green methanol and green ethanol from Gujarat ports, further indicating growing interest and diverse avenues for green energy.

Noteworthy Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been inked with companies like MeOH Giga Battery and Australian Premium Solar Pty Ltd (Australia), along with collaborations between Indian entities such as Welspun and Kiri Industries with Lili Navitas and Sundronix (Germany), facilitating the export of Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia from Gujarat to Europe.

Significant investments have been secured, exemplified by Shakti Group’s commitment of INR 1,000 Crores towards manufacturing green methanol and green ethanol in Gujarat, aligning with the state’s vision for a sustainable future.

It may be mentioned here that the Chemical sector also remains another key area for VGGIS 24 and the Government of Gujarat convened numerous meetings during the International and National roadshows and Delegation visits, engaging with prominent global and national players in the chemical sector.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, for the records is currently on a week long tour to Japan and Singapore and has already held a series of one on one meetings with the senior officials of various companies in Japan.

Patel has conveyed that the state is also poised to become hub for the emerging sectors ling renewable energy, semi conductor and invited representatives from the green hydrogen, renewable energy, logistics, semi conductor, pharmaceuticals and drugs and industrial automation sectors to VGGIS 2024.
