Michaung originated as a low-pressure area in the Gulf of Thailand, later intensifying into a cyclonic storm as it crossed into the Bay of Bengal. The storm brought sustained winds of up to 110 kilometres per hour and heavy rainfall to Northeastern Tamil Nadu and Southeastern Andhra Pradesh.
As per latest media reports, the calamity claimed the lives of at least 17 individuals, prompting the evacuation and temporary relocation of over 41,000 people, with 32,158 in Tamil Nadu and 9,500 in Andhra Pradesh. To prevent potential electrocution hazards, the government took precautionary measures, including the deliberate shutdown of power supply in flooded areas of Chennai.
