There has been a 40 per cent rise in use of electric vehicles in the district — from 3,718 (from April-Nov 2022) to 5,264 in the same period this year.
According to an official from the Regional Transport Office (RTO), out of the 5,264 vehicles registered this year, 4,829 are two-wheelers, 109 are three-wheelers and 326 four-wheelers.
A senior official from the Nashik RTO said there is a rising trend among people to buy electric vehicles and the number is likely to increase in the coming years. A good number of college students on the city streets can be seen riding electric vehicles. Shantanu Zagade, a college student, said, “I have been using an electric scooter for more than a year now. It is easy to drive and is packed with many features. It is also pocket-friendly as it is much cheaper than using petrol.”
He added, “Electric scooters are a matter of attraction among people as it makes them curious to know about its performance and technology. I suggest everyone to go for an electric scooter as it is the best option for moving around in the city in an eco-friendly manner.”
Vivek Pathade, a second-year college student, said, “My parents bought me an electric scooter last year. Now I do not need to rely on public transport for travelling to college. Since the number of electric scooters are very few on the streets, they naturally catch the attention of everyone. Many a times people come and ask me how has my experience been so far.” Meanwhile, many people said they were waiting for some more time so that more options are available to choose from the EV segment.
