Daihatsu’s shipping halt threatens 420 suppliers and 30,000 dealers

OSAKA/TOKYO — Japanese carmaker Daihatsu Motor, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor, has decided to stop shipping all cars it has produced in Japan and elsewhere. This will also hurt its suppliers and dealers, and could lose the company customers if it continues for long.

The number of companies that directly supply parts to Daihatsu totals 423. Of those, 47 do more than 10% of their business with Daihatsu, 34 of which are small- and medium-size companies.
