The demand for automotive vision systems in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region has significantly increased in recent years. This growth can be attributed to several factors, such as increased awareness among consumers regarding road safety, a growing preference for luxury vehicles, and a rise in disposable income. Against this backdrop, the automotive vision systems market in APAC is forecast to post a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.7% during 2023-2028, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics firm.
GlobalData’s latest report, “Global Sector Overview & Forecast – Automotive Vision Systems,” reveals that the automotive vision systems market in APAC is estimated to reach 364.3 million units in 2023 and 416.3 million units by 2028.

Madhuchhanda Palit, Automotive Analyst at GlobalData, said, “The demand for infrared reflective glazing is surging in the APAC region due to its ability to deflect heat-causing infrared radiation, which enhances passenger comfort and reduces the need for extensive air conditioning, resulting in improved energy efficiency, especially in the case of electric vehicles.

“Additionally, the infrared reflective glazing acts as a barrier against harmful UV rays, providing passengers with added protection. The tropical climate in many parts of APAC has caused the demand for this technology to grow. Beyond its functional benefits, this technology also elevates the visual appeal of vehicles, a key consideration for young consumers in the APAC market.”

China and Japan already have well-established markets for automotive vision systems, while India and Thailand are seeing a gradual rise in demand. Vision system components include various elements like acoustic windshields, head-up displays (HUDs), laminated sidelites, mirrorless interior monitors, exterior auto-dim mirrors, interior auto-dim mirrors, polycarbonate glazing, and switchable roof glazing.

“In APAC, auto-dimming mirrors are gaining traction among safety-conscious consumers. These mirrors automatically adjust the tint to reduce night-time glare, improving visibility and minimizing the risk of accidents. Along with auto-dimming mirrors, head-up displays are also gaining popularity, with the market projected to achieve a 12.5% CAGR from 2023 to 202,” Palit said

HUDs enhance driver safety by projecting crucial information like speed, navigation, and traffic alerts onto the windshield, enabling drivers to stay focused on the road. Recent technological advancements have made these advanced features more affordable and reliable, contributing to their increasing inclusion in cars. Although the auto-dimming mirrors and HUD market in APAC is currently small, it is experiencing significant growth.

“Consumers in APAC are increasingly favoring advanced features over traditional ones, as seen in the significant demand growth for auto-dimming mirrors while traditional mirror demand remains stagnant. Despite many advanced features being exclusive to luxury cars, the rising demand for luxury vehicles in APAC is further propelling these markets. To stay competitive, manufacturers are investing in research and development, aiming to make new features accessible in more affordable car models,” Palit added.
