Yamaha to make small motorbikes for Japan’s new moped class

TOKYO — Yamaha Motor will make its own small motorbikes in response to a rule change in Japan that will broaden the definition of mopeds.

Under the new standards, moped license holders will be able to operate some cycles with engines of up to 125 cubic centimeters, up from 50 cc now. Ordinary driver’s license holders can already operate mopeds.
