The Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corporation have signed a new agreement with Samsung Electronics, a subsidiary of the Samsung Corporation, to engage in a Car-to-Home and Home-to-Car service partnership. Through the agreement, the companies will together look to enhance the connectivity between residential and mobility spaces.
Through the partnership, owners of Hyundai and Kia vehicles will be able to remotely control their digital home appliances through their vehicle, utilizing the infotainment system’s touch and voice control functions to do so. At the same time, these customers will also be able to remotely control various vehicle systems through connected appliances such as AI speakers, televisions, and smartphone apps. This remote home-to-car capability will, for example, allow users to check the vehicle status, control select functions, and manage EV charging before and after driving.
This deep connectivity is enabled through the integration of Hyundai and Kia’s connected car services, with both brands operating under the Hyundai Motor Group, as well as SmartThings, Samsung’s Internet of Things (IoT) platform. Hyundai and Kia expect that this integration will provide their customers with uninterrupted connectivity experiences, and that it will be used by customers in various ways throughout their daily lives.
