Giving a boost to Indo-UAE relations ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a bilateral meeting with visiting President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan here where several MoUs were signed. The UAE president is the chief guest at the 10th edition of the summit, which will be inaugurated by Modi here on Wednesday.
The PM also met several industry captains and CEOs, including Micron Technologies CEO Sanjay Mehrotra and Suzuki Motor Corp president Toshihiro Suzuki, and discussed plans to boost investment in India. He also held talks with Timor-Leste’s President Jose Ramos-Horta and Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi.
India and UAE signed MoUs on investment cooperation in renewable energy sectors, innovative healthcare projects, food park development and on creating sustainable, green and efficient ports.
Modi holds talks with CEOs to boost investments in India
In their 4th meeting in less than 7 months, the leaders hailed the rapidly transforming India-UAE partnership and reaffirmed their commitment to a shared and prosperous future, MEA official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
On the eve of the summit, the PM also met several industry captains and CEOs from across the globe, including Micron Technologies CEO Sanjay Mehrotra, along with the Prof Iain Martin, vice-chancellor of Deakin University; DP World group chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, A P Moller Maersk CEO Keith Svendsen, and Suzuki Motor Corp president Toshihiro Suzuki, to discuss plans to bolster foreign and domestic investment in India.
Modi also held bilateral meetings with Timor-Leste’s president Dr Jose Ramos-Horta and Mozambique’s president Filipe Nyusi, at the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar on Tuesday. He discussed ways to strengthen “bilateral cooperation” with these countries “in various fields”, MEA said.
President Horta of Timor-Leste (East Timor) expressed support for making India a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. PM Modi also congratulated president Horta on his country’s upcoming membership of Asean (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and invited him to join the International Solar Alliance and Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.
An external affairs ministry spokesperson said the discussions (between Modi and Horta) included “development partnership in health, traditional medicine, energy, IT, fintech, and capacity building.”
The Micron CEO discussed with PM Modi the company’s efforts to enhance the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem in India. During his meeting with Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, the PM discussed DP World’s plans to further bolster investment in India, especially pertaining to creating sustainable, green and energy-efficient ports, and world-class sustainable logistic infrastructure.
The PM welcomed Deakin University, which has set up a campus at Gujarat International Finance Tec (GIFT) City to collaborate with Indian universities to promote research and innovation.
The PM took to social media platform X to state, “Keith Svendsen, CEO of A.P. Moller- @Maersk, met PM @narendramodi in Gandhinagar. The PM welcomed their expansion plans in GIFT City. Their discussions encompassed the crucial topics of green hydrogen and the development of logistics infrastructure.”
Modi and Toshihiro Suzuki “discussed Maruti Suzuki’s plans to make India a strong player in the global automotive market by exporting made-in-India vehicles, along with deploying global best practices related to vehicle scrapping and vehicle recycling in India”, according to the PMO.
