Maruti Suzuki to invest $4.2bn for new India plant

BENGALURU — India’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki will invest 350 billion rupees ($4.2 billion) to build a new factory in the western state of Gujarat, as local and global rivals turn up the heat with aggressive expansion plans.

The factory, expected to start production by the fiscal year ending March 2029, will increase the company’s annual capacity by 1 million units, Suzuki Motor President Toshihiro Suzuki said at an investment summit in Gujarat on Wednesday.
