The long-delayed public charging stations for electric vehicles will start getting operational by January-end.
In the first phase, the Chandigarh Renewable Energy, Science & Technology Promotion Society (CREST) has set a target of energizing 56 charging guns at five locations across the city.
The work on the installation is nearing completion at these locations and stations are expected to be ready by January 31.
Earlier, the construction and installation work were suspended after the Chandigarh municipal corporation raised objections over the location of some of the charging stations.
Recently, the CREST and MC reached an understanding regarding the location of the charging stations. Thereafter, a go-ahead was given to the installation of the charging stations.
After the tendering process, the CREST had allotted the work of installation of the charging stations to two companies. But the work was derailed after the MC raised objections.
The issue was resolved only after the intervention and directions from UT administrator Banwarilal Purohit.
