Inox Air Products, the joint venture between Inox Group and USA’s Air Products, has signed an MoU with the Government of Maharashtra for setting up Maharashtra’s first green ammonia plant with a capacity of 500,000 MTPA at the cost of $3 billion.
The company is a manufacturer of industrial and medical gases.
In a press statement the company said the project is aimed to be commissioned in a three to five years timeline.
The plant would produce liquid ammonia, which would be a climate-neutral hydrogen carrier.
Ammonia is used to make agricultural fertilizers. Green ammonia is a derivative of green hydrogen made from electrolysis of water.
‘With its sheer size and capacity, the facility is poised to play a critical role in global value chain for the sustainable and versatile green hydrogen,” the company said, adding that as a primary alternative to fossil fuels, green hydrogen is key to a secured energy future with its capabilities to decarbonise the economy and bring down carbon emissions substantially.
