Epsilon Carbon Pvt. Ltd. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Odisha, committing an investment of INR 10,000 crores over 10 years for the establishment of an Integrated Carbon Complex (ICC) in Jharsuguda, Odisha.
The ICC project will have a manufacturing capacity of 8,75,000 MT/annum for various carbon products. The three main components of the complex include Speciality Carbon Capacity (500,000 MT/annum), Carbon Black Capacity (300,000 MT/annum), and Advanced Materials Capacity (75,000 MT/annum).
The initiative is expected to generate around 2000 direct and indirect job opportunities, contributing to the socio-economic development of the region. Epsilon Carbon emphasizes collaboration with local communities to support education, skill development, healthcare, and infrastructure.
Jharsuguda, chosen as the location for the mega project, boasts an industrial ecosystem, skilled labor availability, robust infrastructure, and industry-friendly policies. The region’s proximity to major steel industries ensures a consistent supply of raw materials. Additionally, the project strategically benefits from Jharsuguda’s status as India’s aluminum hub, utilizing coal tar pitch extensively. Well-connected ports like Paradip enhance the project’s logistical advantages for smooth export operations.
Vikram Handa, Managing Director of Epsilon Carbon, highlighted the company’s confidence in Jharsuguda’s potential. He cited the state’s industrial-friendly policies, coupled with existing steel and aluminum industries, as aligning with Epsilon Carbon’s sustainable business strategy. The venture aims to contribute to the region’s industrial growth and prosperity while marking a significant milestone in Epsilon Carbon’s commitment to sustainable development.
