Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) will identify underdeveloped areas of the city with high traffic load to construct new roads under the Chief Minister Grid Scheme (CMGS).
For this purpose, INR 200 crore has been sanctioned.
Under the project, the road will be renovated, and equipped with necessary amenities such as utility ducts, footpaths, green zones, solar-powered street lights, bus stops, EV charging stations, and beautification features, along with improved pedestrian facilities. The announcement was made by LMC commissioner Inderjit Singh at the executive committee meeting of the corporation on Tuesday, where he also unveiled its proposed budget for the upcoming year, showcasing a 35% increase from the previous year, reaching INR 2,865 crore. The budget will now be put up before the House for final approval on February 1.
He said that the state government chose LMC to grant a budget under CMGS as an incentive for the increase of revenue by INR 100 crore in the last financial year. “We will identify roads with heavy traffic density and develop them as per CMGS guidelines. These will be modern roads,” he said.
Chief finance officer Nandlal Kureel said that the LMC will not increase the tax rate but increase house tax collection by 12% from INR 556 crore from expanded areas, from advertisement and interest. Revenue will also be generated from housing Union grants and Amrit Mission etc.
These will be used in cleanliness of drains, which will now be done twice a year, in May and November. Civic body will also promote computerization to improve its schools, create model vending zones for street vendors, and initiate e-offices.The proposal fo r new LMC headquarters at Fun Mall, Gomtinagar, and stadium approval on Buddhaeshwar and Bijnaur Road was also approved.
