Impact asset manager responsAbility Investments AG on Wednesday announced that it has invested $20 million in Singapore-headquartered CleanEdge Resources Pte Limited.
CleanEdge will use the investment proceeds to expand its build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) projects in the industrial wastewater treatment and waste-to-energy sectors across Asia, per a press statement issued by responsAbility.
BOOT projects involve long-term contracts without any upfront capex from the customer. CleanEdge will finance, construct, own, and operate the project for the period of the contract.
“Industries today are increasingly focused on sustainable use of water and effective management of their wastewater, and CleanEdge is proud to be working together with corporates in implementing advanced solutions to address the challenges. The investment from responsAbility will contribute directly to the achievement of our vital goal of fostering a more sustainable and equitable future for communities around the world,” said Raju Shukla, founder and Chairman, CleanEdge.
CleanEdge is an environmental company offering disruptive technologies for industrial wastewater treatment and waste-to-energy solutions with a focus on resource recovery and sustainability. Its subsidiary, Lars Enviro Pvt. Ltd., is an environmental engineering company in India with over 25 years of domain experience in the field of wastewater, water treatment, and waste management, having executed projects across 22 countries globally.
This investment in CleanEdge aligns with responsAbility’s broader aim at reducing CO2 emissions in Asia. It, along with Germany’s development bank KfW and Dutch development bank FMO, launched a $500-million climate investment strategy last November.
According to responsAbility, the new strategy is being launched amid an urgent need for investment in climate-friendly technologies and infrastructure in Asia, which is the largest emitter of greenhouse gases, accounting for more than 50% of global CO2 emissions.
