Maharashtra and Delhi lead with highest number of EV charging stations in country

There are 12,146 of public Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations are operational across the country, Minister of state for Heavy Industries, Krishan Pal Gurjar informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Maharashtra leads the way with 3079 operational stations, while Delhi comes second at 1886 stations. Karnataka is third in the list with 1041 stations.

Gurjar also said the Heavy Industries Ministry has sanctioned INR 800 crore as capital subsidy to the three public sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) for setting up 7,432 electric vehicle charging stations.

According to him, the FAME-II scheme has included financial support in the form of subsidy for setting up of Public Charging Infrastructure to instil confidence among the EV users. Further, guidelines and standards for charging infrastructure prescribe a Revenue sharing model for provision of land at promotional rates for public charging stations.

It has also been stated that electricity connection to Public Charging Station (PCS) need to be provided within stipulated timelines. In addition to this, prescribing a single part EV tariff for public charging stations and shall not exceed Average Cost of Supply till March 31, 2025.

The scheme specifies a ceiling of INR 3.50 per unit of electricity used for slow AC charging of EVs at charging stations. Additionally, a ceiling limit of INR 12 per unit of electricity used for DC Fast charging of EVs has also been specified. “Average cost of supply (ACoS) by DISCOMs to Public Charging Stations during solar hours shall have a rebate of 20% and a surcharge of 20% during all other times,” Gurjar said.
