Waymo vehicle targeted by attack

A Waymo car was torched in anger against vehicle automation.

In San Francisco A Waymo self-driving car was set on fire in an act of vandalism after its windows were smashed. The city is divided over the presence of such cars, which often block traffic. There were already before aggressions against robot taxis. Most recently, activists asked Pylons on the hood to disable the vehicles. The latest incident against robot taxis occurred during Chinese New Year, when the car sat in Chinatown without passengers.

San Francisco was a test area for self-driving taxis in 2023 Waymo and Cruise were given permission to offer their services despite strong opposition from the city administration and residents. Cruise, a competitor to Waymo, had to adapt its cars to one Accident pause in which a pedestrian was thrown from a conventional car onto a cruise robotaxi.

Criticism of the security level of the technology increased. General Motors swapped them Guided tour at Cruise and is planning a gradual return of vehicles to the road. However, providers claim that their self-driving cars are safer on the road than conventionally controlled vehicles.
