East Ventures has appointed Sang Han as a partner for its South Korea fund, while US-based Morningstar has appointed Shihan Abeyguna as managing director, Southeast Asia.
East Ventures ropes in ex-Cento Ventures partner Sang Han
Indonesia-focused venture capital firm East Ventures has appointed Sang Han as a partner for the East Ventures South Korea fund, according to an announcement.
The $100-million fund was launched in October 2023 in partnership with Seoul-based VC firm SV Investment.
“We are pleased to welcome Sang Han as a partner for the East Ventures South Korea fund. Leveraging extensive experience in both Korea and Southeast Asia, we believe Sang stands as an instrumental addition to our team in connecting corridors for our investments and funds between these regions. We eagerly anticipate further delving into the vast opportunities in Southeast Asia and South Korea,” said Willson Cuaca, co-founder and managing partner at East Ventures.
Sang brings 20 years of extensive experience in the industry, having held key leadership roles within asset management and venture capital firms covering Southeast Asia, Korea, and the US. His professional journey includes overseeing diverse corporate development responsibilities and directing investments.
His most recent stint was as a partner at Singapore-based Cento Ventures where he served for five years, according to his Linkedin profile.
He also played a pivotal role in nurturing the growth of startups, notably during his tenure as the managing director of Temasek Lifesciences Accelerator.
Morningstar appoints Shihan Abeyguna as MD of SE Asia
US-based financial services firm Morningstar has appointed Shihan Abeyguna as managing director, Southeast Asia.
The appointment is in addition to his current role as head of business development, Asia, and regional leader, Southeast Asia.

Abeyguna will continue to report to Julie Willoughby, head of global sales at Morningstar.
Abeyguna initially started his journey with Morningstar as a product manager at the company’s main office in Chicago. Throughout his tenure of over 15 years, he has consistently taken on leadership positions in various domains such as product development, strategy, and sales.
