In a groundbreaking move Lt. Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, accompanied by Minister for Transport & Environment, Kailash Gahlot, flagged off 300 JBM ECOLIFE AC Electric Buses from Baansera Park, Sarai Kale Khan, New Delhi. This marks the first introduction of electric buses under the cluster scheme by the Transport Department, with JBM Auto now boasting a fleet of 500 electric buses operating in New Delhi.
JBM Electric buses have been an integral component of the National Capital’s public transportation system for over two years. To support the fleet of 500 electric buses, JBM has established a 30MW charging infrastructure with over 110 high-capacity DC fast chargers, operational from five bus depots located in Rohini, Rajghat, and Burari.
The charging infrastructure utilizes JBM ECOFUEL EV Charging Technology platform, incorporating the latest Megawatt charging solution. This deployment, a first in Delhi and globally, underscores JBM’s commitment to supporting Delhi’s transition towards green and sustainable solutions, aligning with global efforts to address climate change.
Nishant Arya, Vice Chairman & MD, JBM Auto, speaking on the announcement said “Delhi-NCT has been the fastest in embracing electric public transportation and is spearheading towards becoming the EV capital of India.”
The ECOLIFE electric bus, a Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) manufactured by JBM, is estimated to save approximately 1000 equivalent tons of carbon dioxide and 420,000 litres of diesel over ten years of operation. Equipped with fast-charging lithium-ion batteries, these buses feature modern amenities such as Real-Time Passenger Information System (PIS), Panic Buttons for emergencies, Automatic Bus Vehicle Location System, CCTV cameras, and public address systems, among others, the company shared.
The Real-Time Passenger Information System keeps passengers informed about bus locations, while safety features like CCTV cameras ensure continuous surveillance. Passengers can use stop request buttons to signal upcoming stops. The bus also incorporates utility features such as Vehicle Health Monitoring System and Fire Detection & Suppression System. Additionally, the ergonomically designed dashboard ensures driver focus and safety.
