Motorists who park their vehicles by breaking rules are likely to see their vehicles towed away and impounded. Vizag city police have decided to launch a special drive against illegal parking on roads and encroachments of roads and footpaths following complaints from the motorists about congestion of roads due to illegal parking.
Police have observed that some motorists are parking their vehicles on the roads near shopping malls and stores, leading to congestion on the road.
It is the responsibility of the commercial establishments to provide cellar parking for vehicles. However, some of the shops in the city do not have proper parking facilities at the cellars.
ADCP (traffic) G Srinivas said they have decided to increase their vigilance to decongest the roads.
“Parking a vehicle in a no-parking zone is illegal, and we will impose a fine of 1,000 for illegal parking and will wheel-lock the vehicle for unlawful parking. If the management of the commercial establishment fails to utilise the parking space for vehicles, we will initiate action against them as per the law,” he added.
Traffic police say lack of space for parking can never be an excuse for illegal parking on the roads and near shopping malls.
Meanwhile, the local bodies have utterly failed to create parking spaces on the busy stretches. Motorists are always the victims of illegal parking incidents in the city, said D Sudhakar, a resident of MVP Colony in Vizag city.
