PCMC has issued a show-cause notice to Metro authorities for not complying with fire safety norms at stations in the Pimpri Chinchwad limits.

The civic body’s fire department said in the absence of a fire safety officers and committee, there was no standard operating procedure to deal with incidents of fire. “Besides, Metro officials are not trained to tackle fire emergencies. Emergency contact numbers and fire department’s helpline number have also not been put up at the stations,” a civic official said.

The lapses came to the fore last month when the PCMC’s fire brigade team visited Dapodi Metro station to douse a fire at an electric panel board on Feb 16. “The Metro officials present lacked knowledge in preventing and handling fire emergencies. Besides, not all the exhaust fans installed inside the electric panel room were functional. The fans also had no power backup,” a civic official said.

Deputy commissioner of PCMC Manoj Lonkar TOI, “We have told the Metro officials to comply with the fire safety norms.”

Hemant Sonawane, executive director (PR), Maha Metro, said, “We have received the PCMC notice. We will comply with all the norms.”
