The ever-growing market shift towards high-riding vehicles in the past few years has resulted in almost all major manufacturers introducing affordable, entry-level SUVs in India. In 2024, the sub-Rs 10 lakh space is crowded with tons of SUV offerings to choose from, which leaves the buyer spoilt for choice. On that note, here’s a list of the top 10 most affordable SUVs in India.
10. Maruti Suzuki Brezza
Starting price: Rs 8.3 lakh
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is the tenth most affordable SUV in India, with a base price of Rs 8.3 lakh. It gets a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes 103hp power and 137Nm torque. The engine is available with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. A CNG option is also on offer.
9. Tata Nexon
Starting price: Rs 8.15 lakh
With a starting price of Rs 8.15 lakh, the Tata Nexon comes next on the list. It can be had with either a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine making 120hp and 170Nm, or a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 115hp and 260Nm. Both engines are available with manual and automatic gearbox options.
8. Mahindra XUV300
Starting price: Rs 7.99 lakh
The Mahindra XUV300 is available with two 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine options, generating 110hp and 131hp respectively. The third engine option is a 1.5-litre diesel, rated at 117hp/300 Nm. Pricing for the Mahindra XUV300 petrol starts at Rs 7.99 lakh.
7. Kia Sonet
Starting price: Rs 7.99 lakh
The Kia Sonet facelift was launched in January this year, carrying a base price of Rs 7.99 lakh. Powertrain options include a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder NA petrol engine, a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor and a 1.5-litre, 5-cylinder diesel. 5-speed MT, 6-speed clutchless manual (iMT), 7-speed dual clutch automatic, 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic are the various transmissions on offer with the Kia Sonet.
6. Hyundai Venue
Starting price: Rs 7.94 lakh
Kia Sonet’s cousin Hyundai Venue undercuts it by about Rs 5,000 as far as starting price is concerned, falling on the sixth position on this list. Engine options are the same as Sonet, i.e. 1.2-litre petrol (83hp), 1.5-litre diesel (116hp), and 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (120hp).
5. Maruti Suzuki Fronx
Starting price: Rs 7.51 lakh
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx crossover SUV comes next, with prices starting from Rs 7.51 lakh. The Fronx is retailed through Maruti Suzuki’s premium Nexa dealerships, and is available with 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol (90hp/113Nm) and 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol (100hp/148Nm) engine options. The former can also be had with an optional CNG kit.
4. Tata Punch
Starting price: Rs 6.13 lakh
At Rs 6.13 lakh for the entry-level Pure model, the Punch is Tata Motors’ most affordable SUV. It gets the same 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine as the Tiago and Tigor, making 88hp power and 115Nm torque. Tata Motors also offers Punch with a CNG option with its dual-cylinder technology that frees up more space in the boot as compared to conventional CNG cylinders.
3. Hyundai Exter
Starting price: Rs 6.13 lakh
Hyundai Exter is Tata Punch’s biggest rival in India, and coincidentally also carries the same starting price of Rs 6.13 lakh. Its 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder NA petrol engine is capable of making 83hp and 114Nm, while the figures are slightly toned down on the CNG version to 69hp and 95Nm respectively.
2. Nissan Magnite
Starting price: Rs 6 lakh
The Nissan Magnite is the joint most affordable SUV in India with prices starting from Rs 6 lakh for the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with the 5-speed manual gearbox. This engine makes 72hp power and returns a 19.35kmpl fuel efficiency with the MT and 19.70kmpl with the 5-speed AMT. Also on offer is a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, available with 5MT and CVT gearbox options.
1. Renault Kiger
Starting price: Rs 6 lakh
The Renault Kiger shares the title of the most affordable SUV in India with its cousin Nissan Magnite. The sub-4-metre SUV makes use of the same 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol and turbo-petrol powertrains as the Magnite. Apart from Magnite, the Renault Kiger also faces direct competition from Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch.
