India’s pioneer collector Pranlal Bhogilal (1937-2011) was inducted into FIVA’s Heritage Hall of Fame on 6th March, 2024 in recognition to his contributions to India’s, and the world’s, historic vehicle heritage.Pranlal Bhogilal had been nominated for the prestigious Heritage Hall of Fame award by FIVA (Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens, since 1966), alongside esteemed figures such as Jay Leno, Giampaolo Dallara, and Michele Mouton.
Around three dozen individuals were nominated by FIVA members and clubs around the world and an international judging panel (made up internationally famous historic vehicle personalities such as Nick Mason (UK), McKeel Hagerty (USA), Gaby von Oppenheim (Germany), Shiro Nakamura (Japan), Eli Solomon (Singapore), Alberto Lenz (Mexico), Patrick Rollet (France), Navaz Bhathena (India) and FIVA President Tiddo Bresters) whittled that number down to nine.The FIVA Heritage Hall of Fame was conceived to celebrate the innovators who have taken forward the development and popularity of all aspects of motoring and also those who work so hard to preserve and protect our automotive heritage for future generations. “Every one of these additions to the Heritage Hall of Fame is deeply deserving of their place and we would thank them for what they’ve done for the world of motoring,” said Tiddo Bresters.Born on November 28, 1937, Pranlal Bhogilal embarked on his journey as a collector at a tender age, delving into the acquisition of automobiles from across the world and also from India’s princely families.Realizing a longstanding dream, Bhogilal established Auto World Vintage Car Museum in 2005 on the outskirts of Ahmedabad, at Kathwada. The family estate known as Dastan is set within a sprawling estate adorned with manicured lawns, sculptures, and diverse flora and fauna, the museum, known as Autoworld, offers a captivating backdrop for his remarkable collection.The custodianship of Bhogilal’s collection falls to his daughter, Chamundeshwari Bhogilal-Chinai, and son-in-law, Brijesh Chinai.For the induction ceremony The Honourable Sir Michael Kadoorie and Dr. Hugo Weihe, both of whom are long-time friends of Mr. Pranlal Bhogilal were present, as was one of the FIVA’s Heritage Hall of Fame members, Navaz Bhathena and FIVA Vice Presidents, Gabriella Magureanu and Gautam Sen.
