A cultural, historical and tourist itinerary through the symbolic places that characterized the life of Gabriele d’Annunzio, Prince of Montenevoso. This is the initiative promoted by the Stati Generali del Patrimonio Italiano body in collaboration with the ACI Automobile Club d’Italia, ACI Storico, Automobile Club Pescara, Municipality of Pescara, Fondazione Filippo Caracciolo and Fondazione Vittoriale degli Italiani.
The ceremony will be held on April 5th at 10 am in the council room of the Town Hall. Will be present: the Mayor of the City of Pescara, Carlo Masci, the President of the City Council, Marcello Antonelli, the Councilor for Culture of the City of Pescara, Maria Rita Carota and the President of the Automobile Club Pescara, Giampiero Sartorelli. Ivan Drogo Inglese, President of the Stati Generali del Patrimonio Italiano body and secretary of the Parliamentary Intergroup of Italian Heritage, will speak.
A route, that of the “Dannunziani Itineraries” inserted into the Italian heritage which is presented precisely during 2024 declared “Year of Italian Roots”. Furthermore, some of the places will be included in the “European Heritage Days” promoted by the Council of Europe.
The itinerary includes three stops in as many “Annunzian Cities”: Pescara, the poet’s birthplace and where the birthplace is located which, today, houses a museum and is managed directly by the Ministry of Culture. Pietrasanta, the place where the poet stayed in the Villa La Versiliana owned by Count Andrea Digerini Nuti and his wife Marianna Ginori Lisci, here he met her brother Marquis Carlo Benedetto Ginori Lisci, first president of the ACI Automobile Club of Italy, and always here he composed the opera “La Pioggia nel Pineto”. Gardone Riviera, place of his last residence, the Vittoriale degli Italiani, of death and burial.
An itinerary representative of over 75 years of national history. The binding element is Gabriele d’Annunzio’s passion for cars and in general for motoring, which is also considered an identity asset of the Italian heritage.
The unchanged widespread interest in the character is confirmed by the status of the Vittoriale degli Italiani as the most visited museum house in Italy.
During the ceremony the Mayor of the City of Pescara will receive the plaque for inclusion in the itineraries.
For the occasion, the Automobile Club of Pescara will take care of the exhibition, outside the town hall, of some classic and vintage cars, symbols of historic Italian motoring.
Carlo Masci – Mayor of the City of Pescara“The cult of beauty was part of Gabriele d’Annunzio’s philosophy of life, together with the cult of the automobile as a product of ingenuity whose strength and elegance he also praised in his works, the male spirit of power and the female spirit of gender: it was he who declined “car” into the feminine, innovating the Italian language. The car is iconic in the literary production and in the deeds of our most illustrious fellow citizen, whose exuberant personality was also expressed with the sinuous and seductive lines of exclusive cars and the roar of the engines. Pescara in 1924, exactly one hundred years ago, hosted the first edition of the ‘Coppa Acerbo’ won by Enzo Ferrari: it is therefore an indispensable destination due to its history, vocation and moral legacy, of the D’Annunzio Itineraries which promote places through historical motoring” .
Giampiero Sartorelli – President Automobile Club Pescara”For Gabriele d’Annunzio the car was the symbol of progress, in line with the themes of Futurism. In the car D’Annunzio foresaw the vehicle through which a new mobility would be created, even social. Hence the strong emphasis placed on the concept of speed, which engines allow to be achieved. D’Annunzio hoped for the organization of new car races (in particular the ‘Coppa Acerbo’), which thanks to the passion of the fans for their champions would have attracted ever greater popular consensus on the new medium and would have given visibility to the territories involved. These same principles inspire and are at the basis of ACI Storico, an association strongly desired by ACI, which among its objectives has, in addition to that of promoting and protect the great national automotive heritage, also to enhance the territories through the world of historic motoring”.
Ivan Drogo Inglese – President of the General States of Heritage “The Dannunzian Itineraries represent an extraordinary opportunity to get to know beautiful Italian places. With an exceptional testimonial: Gabriele d’Annunzio. From Pescara to Gardone Riviera covering the whole of Italy. All in the year of Italian roots. Since d’Annunzio has a growing attractiveness and interest also on an international level”.
