Passenger vehicle market leader Maruti Suzuki India has commissioned another vehicle assembly line at its Manesar facility today. This assembly line has been added to the existing Plant-A of the three manufacturing plants at Manesar.
The new vehicle assembly line has the capability to manufacture 100,000 units per annum and expands the total manufacturing capability at Manesar to 900,000 vehicles per annum. The Maruti Suzuki Manesar facility was inaugurated in February 2007 with the start of Plant A. With growing demand for its vehicles, the company added Plant-B in 2011 and Plant-C in 2013.
Cumulatively, the Manesar facility has contributed over 9.5 million units to Maruti Suzuki’s cumulative production of 30 million units which the company clocked recently. The Manesar plant manufactures the Brezza, Ertiga and XL6 utility vehicles as well as the Wagon R, Dzire, S-Presso, Ciaz and Celerio passenger cars.
Speaking at the commissioning of the new assembly line, Hisashi Takeuchi, managing director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India said, “Maruti Suzuki is deeply committed to the government of India’s vision of `Make in India’. We aim to nearly double our capacity to 4 million vehicles per annum over the next 7-8 years and this capacity addition of 100,000 vehicles per year is a step towards this goal. It will help us serve our customers faster and enhance our overall capability to manufacture up to 23.5 lakh units per annum. This new assembly line adopts technologies that enhance human ergonomics, improve productivity and enhance traceability.”
In the first 11 months of FY2024, Maruti Suzuki produced a total of 17,86,813 passenger vehicles, up 3.40% YoY (April 2022-February 2023: 17,27,981 units).
In FY2024, which is the best-ever fiscal year for the Indian passenger vehicle industry with total wholesales of around 4.23 million units and 9% year-on-year growth, Maruti Suzuki India, the bellwether of the industry, reported its best-ever fiscal year dispatches of 1,759,881 or 1.75 million units, up 10% on the 1.60 million units it sold in the domestic market in FY2023.
