GM’s Cruise is back

GM’s self-driving car unit Cruise plans to resume testing with robotaxis and safety drivers in Phoenix, Arizona.

According to Bloomberg News and Reuters The announcement and the test phase took place on Tuesday. The company previously had… October last year suspended its U.S. operations after an incident in San Francisco in which a pedestrian was struck by one of its robotaxis.

Cruise aims to make a limited return to the roads with human drivers later this year, likely in Houston or Dallas. Prior to the San Francisco incident, Cruise operated driverless operations in various cities, including Phoenix, Houston, Austin, Dallas and Miami.

Currently, the company has not set a timeline for the full implementation of its autonomous vehicles, but is in discussions with authorities in select markets to gather information, share updates and restore trust.
