He sets fire to around forty cars in the parking lot of the Sochaux factory, a former Stellantis temporary worker sentenced to 30 months in prison

A 23-year-old former temporary worker was found guilty of “degradation by dangerous means” and attempted aggravated theft by the Montébliard court (Doubs). In February 2023, he entered the Stellantis Sochaux site and set fire to around forty Peugeot 3008s and 5008s.

He set fire to around forty new cars in the middle of the Stellantis factory in Sochaux (Doubs). A 23-year-old former temporary worker was sentenced this Friday, May 3, 2024 to 30 months of imprisonment by the Montbéliard court.

The man who did not know how to explain his actions was found guilty on Thursday of “degradation by means dangerous to people, after entry by trickery, and attempted aggravated theft” by the criminal court, in accordance with the requisitions of prosecutor Frédéric Muyle.

The facts date back to the night of Saturday February 11 to Sunday February 12, 2023, he had entered the car manufacturer’s site alone and drunk with his temporary worker badge. He had set fire to Peugeot 5008s and 3008s just coming off the assembly lines and parked in a large outdoor car park. The flames spread quickly and “completely destroyed 40 vehicles” in total. Dozens of other vehicles, as well as the solar panels under which they were parked, had also been damaged.

The damage was estimated at more than 3.5 million euros by the Stellantis group. The young man, “presented as a model worker”, already had five mentions in his criminal record, notably for acts of violence and damage.

The Stellantis factory in Sochaux produces 1,200 vehicles every day. At the beginning of February 2023, the factory management announced the end of the night shift, reducing the site’s production capacities by a third, to adapt to the “production program”.
