In June 2022, PIX autonomous minibus –Robobus, first set foot on the European continent, making its entrance in Spain. Since then, the Robobus has left its mark in various countries including Dubai, the United States, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and India. Two years later, PIX Robobus once again lands in Europe, this time heading to the birthplace of the Renaissance — Italy, ultimately settling in the ancient city at the foot of the Alps — Turin. Prior to this, with the approval of the regulatory department of the Turin City Government, PIX Moving has obtained the license for testing and operating autonomous vehicles on public roads in Turin.

At the end of 2023, Angelo Yu, Founder and CEO of PIX Moving, and Germano Cini, Founder of Tecnocad , started a study for a technical/industrial collaboration between their respective companies to develop and promote innovative sustainable urban mobility solutions. The preliminary phase concluded positively in March 2024 with the official signing between PIX Moving and Tecnocad of the strategic collaboration contract aimed at implementing electric autonomous vehicles at large scale to provide on-demand urban services through the autonomous mobility. In the first phase, the activity will be focused on the PIX Robobus vehicle that will be deployed in Italy, providing shuttle services in Turin. Subsequent collaborations will then extend to other European countries.

PIX Moving is a pioneer player in the urban robotics and smart mobility sector, dedicated to providing high-tech mobility products for city services. The collaboration between our companies will create the opportunities to generate the awareness on the potential of the autonomous driving technology through an experience customized by our teams based on the European market demand.” said Stefano Cini , the CEO of Tecnocad .

“Tecnocad has rich experience in autonomous driving operations. Through our cooperation, we want the PIX urban robot product — Robobus — to provide Italian and European city residents with a more convenient, efficient, and eco-friendly mode of transportation and a new travel experience” stated Angelo Yu, Founder & CEO of PIX Moving.

Italy has always placed a strong emphasis on autonomous driving, initiating a specific official research and development program for autonomous vehicles as early as March 2017. This program was later incorporated into the 2018 Budget Law, and through an act of the Italian Senate, an official plan was also approved to allow on-road testing of these vehicles, providing effective legal protection for the development of this revolutionary vehicle industry.

In this context, PIX Moving has already obtained a license from the Municipality of Turin to test and operate its autonomous vehicles on public roads. At the same time, PIX has been selected for the Turin smart city project “Torino City Lab”, making PIX one of the first companies to test and operate autonomous vehicles in Italy.

According to a McKinsey report analysis, as people become more concerned with environmental protection, there is a growing preference for eco-friendly modes of transportation such as public transit. Additionally, with traffic congestion becoming increasingly severe, the efficiency of travelling by private car is decreasing. Therefore, by 2035, the proportion of passenger kilometres traveled by private cars is expected to decline by about 15 percentage points, while public transportation and small mobility devices may become the preferred modes of travel.

Compared to the traditional large public transportation systems, the 6-seater Robobus from PIX Moving is serving as an urban microcirculation tool, offering better public transportation services to European citizens.

The Robobus can control the operation of the vehicles pricisely, reducing delays caused by human factors and waiting times. Based on real-time traffic conditions and passenger demands, it can dynamically adjust routes to reduce congestion. At the same time, the Robobus covers a broader range to meet the citizens’ last 1–3 kilometers of transportation needs.

As of now, PIX’s smart mobility products have been deployed in more than 20 countries around the globe, including the US, the UK, Spain, Japan, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Singapore, South Korea, India and other countries, accumulating thousands of orders.

In coherence with its founding principles, Tecnocad carries on an innovative and visionary program to develop cutting-edge engineering methods and technologies, called TECNEERING. It is a concept that embraces the fusion of advanced technologies and creativity, with the goal of developing innovative solutions that will drive the future of mobility.

This strategy looks to a future where vehicles will be more connected, autonomous and ecological. This transformation in mobility, along with the transition towards more sustainable power sources, requires a systemic change that involves the entire infrastructure ecosystem. These infrastructures must necessarily be designed to promote shared, ecological mobility, micro-mobility, and public transportation accessible to all.
