JLR partners with Fortescue on advanced EV battery intelligence technologies

JLR has signed a multi-year deal to leverage Fortescue’s advanced battery intelligence software, Elysia, in its next-generation EVs.

Through it, JLR will look to enhance its new luxury vehicles with improved battery longevity, safety, and performance. While the partnership will begin with the new Range Rover Electric, set to launch later this year, it will evolve to Elysia monitoring all future JLR EVs. This will help to give clients a better ownership experience with faster charging, improved reliability, and increased range.

Fortescue’s software uses physics-informed digital twins and probabilistic AI to identify and solve battery issues, helping JLR optimize battery performance and safety for clients. This strategic collaboration will allow the corporation to gain detailed insights into battery conditions, offering specific recommendations to improve performance through software updates.

The collaboration more broadly supports JLR’s Reimagine strategy to electrify all its brands by 2030 and achieve carbon net zero by 2039. Fortescue’s own decarbonization goals include eliminating emissions from its operations by 2030. JLR’s partnership with Fortescue follows the announcement of its collaboration with Tata Communications, through which it will look to connect 128 global sites with advanced digital capabilities.
