Volkswagen India makes six airbags standard in Taigun and Virtus

Volkswagen India has announced the standardisation of six airbags across all the variants of the 5-Star GNCAP safety rated Taigun SUV and Virtus sedan. Over 100,000 units of the two VW models have been sold in India to date. Skoda Auto India had made six airbags standard fitment in its Kushaq SUV and Slavia sedan in April 2024.

According to Volkswagen India, the Taigun has contributed to over 61% of sales that led to the 100,000-plus India 2.0 cars sales milestone while the Virtus has established itself as the premium midsize sedan of choice among customers. Approximately 40% of customers have fulfilled their aspirations of owning the GT variants for both the Taigun and Virtus.

While Skoda India marginally hiked prices of both its models with the update, Volkswagen has kept the prices unchanged. In fact, the entry-level Comfortline trim of the Taigun is available at a special offer price of Rs 10.99 lakh, which is Rs 70,000 lower than normal; this offer is applicable for a limited time period only. Prices for the Taigun top out at Rs 20 lakh. Meanwhile, the Virtus is priced between Rs 11.56 lakh and Rs 19.41 lakh.

Both the Taigun and Slavia are 5-star rated cars by Global NCAP, having secured that rating in just their dual airbag-spec. Other safety features on both models include ESC as standard, a multi-collision braking system, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), brake assist and traction control.

Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “We take great pride in announcing our portfolio of India 2.0 cars offering 6 airbags as standard across the line-up. With this, not only are we showcasing our commitment towards safer mobility but also reaffirming our core belief of safety being a key product pillar for Volkswagen India. We are also delighted to have achieved the over 100,000 sales milestone by the Taigun and Virtus.”

Volkswagen India recently introduced two new variants on the Taigun – GT Line based on the 1.0l TSI and GT Plus Sport based on the 1.5l TSI EVO engine. The company currently has a network strength of 208 sales and pre-owned car touchpoints, and 142 service touchpoints across 155 cities.
