Vietnam-based asset manager VinaCapital on Thursday announced the sudden passing of its chief investment officer, Andy Ho.
Ho passed away on June 6 at his home in Ho Chi Minh City. He was 52.
“Andy has been my trusted business partner since 2007, and he has been instrumental in the growth of the VinaCapital Vietnam Opportunity Fund and the company as a whole,” Don Lam, CEO and Founding Partner of VinaCapital, said in a statement.
The firm revealed that Brook Taylor, its CEO of Asset Management, will serve as interim head of the VinaCapital Vietnam Opportunity Fund (VOF), along with co-managers Khanh Vu and Phuong Nguyen.
Since joining VinaCapital in 2007, Ho helped VOF’s net asset value surpass $1.2 billion, deployed over $1.5 billion in privately negotiated deals and led over $1 billion in exits via strategic trade sales, per his LinkedIn profile.
Prior to joining VinaCapital, he was the director of investment at Prudential Vietnam, where he looked after the company’s capital market portfolio and developed its bank investment strategy.
He also held various management positions at Dell Ventures (the investment group of Dell Computer Corp) and Ernst & Young.
VinaCapital’s private equity investments under his helm include a healthcare platform that houses Thu Cuc Hospital, Tam Tri Medical and Thai Hoa Hospital; electronics retailer FPT Retail; animal feed and farm products company Nova Consumer; and a hospitality platform in partnership with Warburg Pincus.
