India’s semiconductor industry needs 3 lakh skilled people by 2027: IANS

The Indian semiconductor industry needs 2.5 to 3 lakh skilled people by 2027, IANS reported citing a TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship report.

IANS noted that the semiconductor industry is slated to become a USD 100 billion industry by 2030, with the expansion expected to generate roughly 1 million global jobs by 2025-26.

The Electronics Sector Skill Council at present offers more than 25 apprenticeship courses under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme to look into the issue of skill shortages at various levels, IANS noted.

To address this, the TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship is engaging with academia, industry leaders and government bodies, IANS noted.

The PLI Scheme offers a USD 1.7 billion incentive package for firms establishing semiconductor manufacturing facilities in India.
