Hyundai previews upcoming Casper Electric with teaser image

Hyundai Motor Company has released the first teaser image of its upcoming Casper Electric. The Casper Electric is the zero-emission avatar of Hyundai’s cute miniature crossover based on the Hyundai i10 city hatchback.

The crossover-style Casper city car, which is currently sold exclusively in South Korea, was, earlier this year, spotted winter testing in Scandinavia, suggesting that it could be completing the homologation process for Europe.

In September 2021, Hyundai had revealed the Casper as an extremely compact, SUV-style urban runabout for its home market of South Korea. Dimension-wise, it is 3595mm long, 1595mm wide and 1575mm tall, with a 2400mm wheelbase. The upcoming Casper Electric’s dimensions are expected to be the same.

The Casper Electric’s teaser image shows that the small EV inherits the solid silhouette of the base model but has evolved to differentiate itself by adding electrified design elements.

The Casper Electric has a sturdy yet concise silhouette. In addition, the front turn signal and surface-emitting DRL, which are applied with differentiated pixel graphics unique to electric vehicles, display unity with the tail and stop lamps at the rear and attract attention.

According to Hyundai, the Casper Electric has a driving range of 315 kilometres on a single charge. The company states that the Casper Electric, which has been created as a new car class, will become a standard car that will lead the popularisation of the EV market in Korea.

Hyundai Motor Company will officially showcase the new Casper Electric in public for the first time at the Busan Mobility Show on June 27.

Will the Casper Electric come to India?
That’s a million-dollar question to which the answer is not yet known. What is known is that Hyundai Motor India’s EV programme for India will see it begin production of its first locally produced zero emission model – the Creta EV – at the end of 2024 from its Chennai manufacturing plant. By 2030, there are plans to produce another five EVs in India.

These six battery electric vehicles (BEVs) from Hyundai Motor India will span different segments and body styles, designed to cater to different segments like the mass market as well as mass premium market and will include an SUV, sedan and CUV (Compact Utility Vehicle).
