HONG KONG — Chinese authorities have demanded that the electric vehicle unit of embattled property developer China Evergrande Group repay 1.9 billion yuan ($262 million) in subsidies, dealing a fresh blow to its stock.
Some subsidiaries of the EV maker failed to meet their contractual obligations, according to a disclosure filed to the Hong Kong Exchange late Tuesday night. The requirements included achieving a certain investment scale, planned production capacity and annual sales, and establishing a global headquarters in the “relevant local administrative authority” within a set timeframe, the filing said.
