Japan’s green tech suppliers seek more credit for carbon reduction

TOKYO — Japan’s green tech suppliers are optimistic that international standards for calculating “avoided emissions” are on the horizon, a move the country’s government has been pushing hard for.

Avoided emissions refers to the amount of greenhouse gas emissions that the use of a product or service helped to avoid compared to a baseline scenario. Suppliers to EV makers and other green technology manufacturers argue they need such a tool to help them convince investors of their role in fighting climate change.
