Greater China Digest: MoonBiotech, URTOPIA snap funds; Blue Pool Capital said to have raised $500m

HongShan-backed MoonBiotech has completed a Series C+ round, while DCM Ventures has re-upped in e-bike manufacturer URTOPIA’s Series A round. Separately, Blue Pool Capital reportedly raised $500 million to invest in hedge and private credit funds.

MoonBiotech raises $41m Series C+ round

MoonBiotech, which engages in the development of microbial products, has secured 300 million yuan ($41.3 million) in an extended Series C funding round. 

SDIC Juli Investment Management, a subsidiary of state-owned State Development and Investment Group (SDIC) exclusively led the Series C+ round to accelerate the commercialisation of MoonBiotech’s microbial products, according to a company release on Monday. 

Founded in 2015, the Guangzhou-based firm had previously secured 200 million yuan ($31 million) in its Series C financing round led by SDIC Venture Capital.   

 URTOPIA secures $10m in Series A funding

E-bike manufacturer URTOPIA has secured $10 million in a Series A financing round to expand its sales network and R&D. 

The company roped in Guangyuan Hesheng Fund, Shenzhen-listed advertising agency Easy Click Worldwide Network Technology, and Tongxiang City Jintong Fund, as the lead investors, according to a release on Monday.  

Investment firms including Kongho Fund and Brizan Ventures also participated, while DCM Ventures re-upped. 

Founded in 2021, the Shenzhen-registered firm sells e-bike and related accessories to Europe and the US. Previously, URTOPIA completed its $10 million pre-Series A round led by DCM and Lightspeed China Partners in February 2022.  

Blue Pool Capital raises $500m to back hedge and private credit funds: report

Hong Kong-based Blue Pool Capital, a multi-strategy investment firm backed by Alibaba Group’s chairman Joseph Tsai, has raised $500 million to invest in hedge and private credit funds, Bloomberg reported citing sources. 

The new fund, as part of Blue Pool’s plan to rope in external clients, counts global family offices and a major sovereign wealth fund among its investors, per the report. Investors can tap into private equity, venture or growth capital, as well as real estate co-investment opportunities that Blue Pool sources, the report added.
