New Delhi: Bosch Global Software Technologies (BGSW) and GMR Group have partnered through a Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) arrangement to initiate a smart metering program in Agra, Varanasi, and Prayagraj. BGSW will hold a 10% stake and GMR Group will hold 90% stake in these SPVs. The program aims to deploy approximately 7.5 million smart meters to enhance the electricity distribution infrastructure.

GMR Group brings its expertise in infrastructure management, while BGSW will design and build the smart metering system architecture. Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) will implement about 5 million smart meters, and Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (DVVNL) is set to implement around 2.5 million smart meters.

BGSW will leverage its IoT and connected products expertise to create a robust system architecture that connects the smart meters to cloud and IT infrastructure. This effort aims to modernize the electricity distribution infrastructure in the selected cities by integrating advanced technology.

Kaushik Sarkar, Senior Vice President and CFO of Bosch Global Software Technologies, said, “This collaborative initiative marks the convergence of GMR Group’s robust infrastructure capabilities with SDS’s cutting-edge IoT and digital capabilities. Together, we aspire to redefine the landscape of electricity distribution in Agra, Varanasi, and Prayagraj by introducing state-of-the-art solutions that will significantly elevate the overall efficiency of the DISCOMS.”

The state-owned DISCOMS PVVNL and DVVNL will be the clients of these SPVs under the program. This strategic initiative is expected to bring advanced technology and increased efficiency to the DISCOM sector, making a substantial impact in the cities involved.
