Hyundai Motor India has introduced a new dual cylinder technology for the Exter, with prices starting from Rs 850,000. Hyundai is now the second manufacturer in India that offers a dual-cylinder setup for its CNG cars after Tata Motors.
Called the Exter Hy-CNG Duo, the SUV makes use of two smaller CNG cylinders instead of one large unit that occupies a majority of the boot space. The use of two smaller CNG cylinders opens up more boot space, further improving the practicality of CNG cars and SUVs.
The introduction of the dual cylinder technology has resulted in a price hike of Rs 7,000 for both the Exter S CNG and SX CNG variants. The CNG version also receives the recently launched Knight edition treatment, priced at Rs 938,000.
Hyundai Exter CNG: powertrain, specs
The Exter CNG makes use of the same 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine as the standard car. When coupled with the CNG kit, the engine produces 69hp and 95.2Nm torque. The Exter CNG can only be had with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It offers a claimed mileage of 27.1km/kg.
The Exter CNG is the first car in Hyundai’s CNG lineup to receive the dual cylinder setup. The Grand i10 Nios CNG and Aura CNG are also expected to receive a similar setup soon. A dual cylinder CNG setup is also seen on Tata cars such as Altroz, Tiago, Punch, and Tigor.
