TomTom partners with Microsoft on location technology and product innovation

TomTom has announced that it will deepen and extend its collaboration with Microsoft. Through the signing of a new long-term agreement with the tech giant, TomTom’s maps and traffic data will power location-based services across Microsoft’s software solutions. The companies will also work closely together on bringing new innovations to market, including AI-infused products, while TomTom has reaffirmed Microsoft Azure as its preferred cloud provider.

The new agreement reflects TomTom and Microsoft’s shared commitment to delivering advanced location technology to businesses and consumers. TomTom powers Azure Maps which, through the Azure cloud platform, enables enterprises and developers to incorporate rich mapping and location capabilities into a variety of solutions – ranging from spatial analytics to internet-of-things and asset-tracking. TomTom’s location technology is also used in various Microsoft’s first-party offerings. Here it powers the location-based features of the company’s AI-powered search engine Bing, its data visualization tool Power BI, the Microsoft 365 suite of productivity software, and more.

To bolster their collective success, TomTom and Microsoft will further collaborate on product innovation, pairing Microsoft’s AI technologies and TomTom’s location technology experiences to develop AI-powered solutions for the automotive, logistics, and broader mobility domains. Through this initiative, the companies will aim to jointly pursue go-to-market initiatives, support customer success, and offer expert guidance.
