With massive panels scheduled for both Thursday and Saturday, Marvel Studios seems ready to hype up its latest film as well as potentially share more details about the next handful of projects it has been cooking up to keep viewers plugged into the MCU.
While Warner Bros. has a bunch of DC films in the pipeline, the studio won’t be matching Marvel’s energy at this year’s SDCC in terms of panels, but it’s very likely that it will make a few surprise announcements to tide fans over. We can also expect to hear more news about shows like AMC’s Interview With the Vampire, Apple’s Silo, and Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. And in a summer that’s already been defined by cinema with exquisitely creepy vibes, the Alien: Romulus panel is likely to give con-goers even more of a reason to get excited.
Until the event’s through, we won’t know just how strong a showcase it will ultimately be, but until then, you can keep checking in here as we cover all of the biggest updates.

-
Fly my car.
In lieu of footage, we at least got this look at the Fantasticar from Fantastic Four, which gives a good sense of the film’s 1960s, retrofuturistic vibe.

A slasher sequel.
Shudder’s In a Violent Nature was one of my favorite films at Sundance this year, a slow-burn slasher that took place from the perspective of the killer. And while we don’t know anything about it just yet, the movie is indeed getting a sequel.

The world of AMC’s The Walking Dead trudges on.
Ahead of the season two premiere of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon — The Book of Carol in September, AMC has renewed the spinoff for third installment. The Walking Dead: Dead City, which debuts in 2025, has also been renewed for a second season, and a new trailer for the series teases how Maggie Green (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) reunite.

Kiryu is getting a live-action makeover very soon. At Comic-Con today, Amazon revealed the first look at its upcoming adaptation of the Yakuza game series, with the show Like a Dragon: Yakuza (not to be confused with the game Yakuza: Like a Dragon). The streaming series will follow original Yakuza hero Kazuma Kiryu.
Amazon says that the show “showcases modern Japan and the dramatic stories of these intense characters, such as the legendary Kazuma Kiryu, that games in the past have not been able to explore.” Kiryu will be played by Ryoma Takeuchi, while Kento Kaku also starts as Akira Nishikiyama. The series is directed by Masaharu Take.

Khaotic good.
Mortal Kombat 1 is getting a big story expansion, along with a new batch of characters pulled from film history: Ghostface, T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian.
-
James Gunn’s Creature Commandos looks like some sort of monstrous suicide squad.
Technically speaking, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) not allowed to run her typical Task Force X in Max’s new animated Creature Commandos series. But monsters like the Bride (Indira Varma), Eric Frankenstein (David Harbour), Nina Mazursky (Zoë Chao), and Weasel (Sean Gunn) aren’t technically human, which is why you’ll be seeing them going on suicidal missions this winter.
-
Solar Opposites’ fifth season will rip ass, apparently.
It’s hard to believe that Solar Opposites has been running for four years, but Hulu’s new trailer for the show’s upcoming fifth season (due out August 12th) is a showcase of how far Korvo (Dan Steven) and Terry (Thomas Middleditch) have come.
-
Adult Swim’s Common Side Effects include diarrhea, paranoia, and immortality.
Big pharma doesn’t want the public to know the truth in Adult Swim’s new animated comedy Common Side Effects from co-creators Joe Bennett (Scavengers Reign) and Steve Hely (Veep). And the truth very much seems to be a plant-based key to immortality in this early clip from the show, which is due out in 2025.
-
Invincible has a new suit and a fourth season on the way.
When Amazon’s Invincible series returns for its third season, Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) is going to be rocking some new blue threads that might become his signature look as the show continues into its just-announced fourth season.

Adult Swim’s long-awaited adaptation of Uzumaki finally has a premiere date — and an appropriately creepy trailer. The series, based on the classic horror manga from Junji Ito, will start airing on September 28th. Episodes will hit Adult Swim first, and then stream on Max the following day.
Uzumaki follows a cursed town that is — and I promise it’s scarier than it sounds — plagued by spirals. Here’s the full synopsis:

The Doctor Who franchise is about to get even bigger with a new spinoff series that, interestingly, doesn’t seem like it’s going to focus on everyone’s favorite Time Lord.
During the Doctor Who panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Disney and the BBC announced that The War Between The Land And The Sea — a new series written by Russell T. Davies and Pete McTighe — is on the way. Rather than the Doctor, the new show will revolve around a group of humans as they work together to face the Sea Devils, a race of ancient, ocean-dwelling creatures who first appeared in Doctor Who back in 1972.

The first season of Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power took its sweet time revealing the true identities of its two most mysterious characters. But when the show returns next month, it seems like it’s going to hit the ground running with big reveals about how Sauron and the Stranger will change Middle-earth. A new, lengthy trailer revealed at Comic-Con gives a good sense at what fans can expect in season 2.
According to Amazon, the new season will be focused on Sauron’s return. “Cast out by Galadriel, without an army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will,” the streamer explains. It looks like this season will also be a good one for fans of fantasy monsters: the likes of the giant spider Shelob, shape-shifting Barrow-wights, and a Sea Worm will make an appearance.
-
The Boys’ fourth season ended on a nightmarish note that made the show’s upcoming final chapter seem like it’s going to its most deranged. But during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Amazon revealed that while The Boys may be coming to an end, the larger franchise is about to get even bigger with a prequel series set in the distant past.
Though The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke was tightlipped about the show’s series finale, he was all too excited to bring actor Jensen Ackles on stage during a panel to announce the forthcoming arrival of Vought Rising, a new prequel series. Set in the ‘50s, Vought Rising will chronicle the lives of Soldier Boy (Ackles) and Stormfront (Aya Cash) — two of Vought’s earliest and most powerful superhumans.

Invincible Fight Girl said “square up!”
With shows like My Adventures with Superman and Rick and Morty: The Anime, Adult Swim has been pretty covered on the superhero and sci-fi fronts. But the programming block is about to get more sporty with Juston Gordon-Montgomery’s Invincible Fight Girl — a new wrestling / action series that looks sick as hell in this preview clip.

Netflix’s Bioshock movie is still coming, albeit with a smaller scope and budget.
Netflix has been so quiet about its Bioshock film adaptation that it almost seemed as if the project might have been put on the back burner. But during a panel at this year’s SDCC, producer Roy Lee assured fans that, while Netflix has “reconfigured” the movie to be smaller and more personal, it’s still very much in the works.
