Maruti Suzuki will take the wraps off the production-spec eVX SUV at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, scheduled from January 17 to 22, in New Delhi. The company’s maiden electric SUV, which has been in the pipeline for a long time, was expected to debut globally sometime this year, but multiple issues led to its delay.
In a recent interaction, a senior Maruti executive said, “We will officially announce the BEV [born electric vehicle] at the Auto Expo in India in January next year, and we hope to launch it in early 2025. We will give priority to Europe first.”
India will be the mother plant for the eVX, a global product for which the parent company Suzuki is looking to cater to key international markets on priority.
As we reported earlier, the made-in-India Maruti eVX will also go on sale in the very competitive European market and Japan. These are some of the first international markets for it. This SUV’s series production is now expected to commence early next year, and most of the units produced here will be for exports, for which the planned annual output is 1.5 lakh units.
The eVX, when introduced, will be aimed squarely at the Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai’s Creta EV, the BYD Atto 3 and Mahindra’s born EV line-up, which is also in the pipeline. The eVX is being developed in partnership with Toyota, so there also will be a Toyota iteration that will go on sale a few months after the eVX’s launch.
