Munich. The tournament week at the 20th anniversary of the BMW PGA Championship was opened this Wednesday at the Wentworth Club in glorious late summer weather with the Celebrity Pro-Am. It was the first highlight of the “Festival of Golf” – a moniker that the flagship event of the DP World Tour has earned with its extra class of sport, live concerts after play, and the Celebrity Pro-Am. Among others, Hollywood star Tom Holland (ENG, lead actor of the “Spider-Man” and “Avengers” film series), five-time Football Champions League winner Gareth Bale (WAL), and Sir Andy Murray (SCO), who in his tennis career has won, among other things, two Wimbledon trophies, two Olympic gold medals, as well as victories in the Davis Cup, the US Open, and the BMW Open in Munich, presented themselves to their numerous fans.
English football national goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, former English football international Robbie Fowler, and German “Let’s Dance” judge Joachim Llambi also enjoyed the atmospheric ambiance on the West Course.
There, the sporting competition for one of the most coveted titles of the DP World Tour begins tomorrow, Thursday, with the first round of the season’s third Rolex Series event. Defending champion Ryan Fox (NZL) will face, among others, the major winners Rory McIlroy (NIR), Matt Fitzpatrick (ENG), Shane Lowry (IRL), and Danny Willett (ENG), as well as Ryder Cup legends Tommy Fleetwood, Luke Donald (European Captain 2023 & 2025), and Justin Rose (all ENG). Please find the tee times for rounds 1 & 2 in the PDF document below.
In addition to a total prize fund of nine million US dollars and many world ranking points, this year’s BMW PGA Championship also offers a spectacular hole-in-one prize to be won, the all-new BMW M5 Touring, which is being presented publicly for the first time in the UK this week at the Wentworth Club. The first player to hole out in one stroke at the 14th hole will be rewarded with the first fully-electric BMW 5 Series ever, manufactured at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing, Bavaria.
