BMW 1 Series: new entry-level model, second variant with BMW xDrive.
From November 2024, the new BMW 116 (fuel consumption, combined: 6.4 – 5.9 litres/100 km [44.1 – 47.9 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions, combined: 146 – 135 g/km in the WLTP cycle, CO2 class: E – D) will provide an even more economical entry point to driving pleasure in the premium segment of the compact class. This new variant adds a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine to the new BMW 1 Series range. Its maximum output of 90 kW/122 hp and peak torque of 230 Nm (170 lb-ft) are channelled to the front wheels via a seven-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch as standard. The new BMW 116 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 9.8 seconds.
The BMW 1 Series line-up also welcomes a new all-wheel-drive option. The new BMW 123 xDrive (fuel consumption, combined: 6.4 – 5.9 litres/100 km [44.1 – 47.9 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions, combined: 145 – 134 g/km in the WLTP cycle, CO2 class: E – D) is powered by an electrified four-cylinder drive unit featuring 48V mild hybrid technology. Its system output of 160 kW/218 hp is the combined work of a petrol engine with up to 150 kW/204 hp and an integrated electric motor with up to 14 kW/19 hp. The instantaneous response of the motor, which is particularly noticeable when pulling away and adding mid-range bursts of speed, helps the new BMW 123 xDrive sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.3 seconds.
BMW M135 xDrive: bespoke performance with the M Technology Package.
An M Technology Package will be available exclusively for the new BMW M135 xDrive from November 2024. It will bring additional bracing elements and lightweight construction measures, plus specific chassis components that give the range-topping 1 Series model bespoke performance characteristics. Particularly strong piston rods for the front shock absorbers, weight-saving aluminium anti-roll bars with extra rigidity and additional underfloor bracing elements increase steering precision and give the car noticeably more engaging responses. There is also an application for the steering and control systems. The fitment of M Compound brakes and M forged light-alloy wheels helps to reduce weight. The 19-inch wheels are fitted with sport tyres, while track tyres can be ordered as an option.
The enhanced transverse dynamics brought about by the M Technology Package and the car’s improved deceleration capability enable significantly improved lap times on the track and also make their presence keenly felt in everyday driving. The M Technology Package for the new BMW M135 xDrive also includes M High-gloss Shadowline exterior trim with extended elements, plus M Sport seats with integral head restraints and an illuminated M logo in the upper section of the backrests.
In addition, from November 2024 all members of the new BMW 1 Series family will offer customers extra scope for adapting the exterior to their personal tastes. The range of exterior paint shades now includes Fire Red metallic, BMW Individual Tanzanite Blue metallic and M Brooklyn Grey metallic. And 19-inch forged light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke design bring extra, neatly judged sharpness to the sporting appearance of the new 1 Series. On the M Performance model and cars specified with the M Sport package, these wheels are also offered with sport tyres. And track tyres are available for the most sporting 1 Series model as part of the M Technology Package. All other model variants now come with an interior trim element in Dark Chrome as standard.
BMW i5 Touring and BMW 5 Series Touring: three additional drive system variants.
The line-up of drive systems for the new BMW 5 Series Touring will also be expanded in November 2024. The new BMW 520i Touring (fuel consumption, combined: 6.7 – 6.1 litres/100 km [42.2 – 46.3 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions, combined: 153 – 137 g/km in the WLTP cycle, CO2 class: E) teams the latest version of the four-cylinder petrol engine with 48V mild hybrid technology to generate maximum output of 140 kW/190 hp and peak torque of 310 Nm (229 lb-ft). These figures can be raised to a maximum 153 kW/208 hp and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft) courtesy of the mild hybrid system’s crankshaft-driven starter generator. The new BMW 520i Touring powers from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.8 seconds.
In the new BMW 550e xDrive Touring (petrol and electric power consumption – weighted, combined: 23.8 – 21.9 kWh/100 km and 1.1 – 0.8 l/100 km [256.8 – 353.1 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions weighted, combined: 25 – 19 g/km in the WLTP cycle; fuel consumption with discharged battery: 8.5 – 7.8 l/100 km [33.2 – 36.2 mpg imp] in the WLTP cycle; CO2 classes: with discharged battery G; weighted, combined B; electric range: 82 – 90 km [51 – 56 miles]), a six-cylinder in-line petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology from the BMW Group’s new generation of modular engines joins forces with the latest version of BMW eDrive technology for plug-in-hybrid systems. The 3.0-litre engine produces nominal output of 230 kW/313 hp at 5,000 – 6,500 rpm and nominal torque of 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) at 1,750 – 4,700 rpm. The electric motor developed for the hybrid drive system is integrated – together with its power electronics – directly into the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and contributes up to 145 kW/197 hp to the peak system output of 360 kW/489 hp. Its nominal torque of up to 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) is boosted to an effective value of as much as 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) at the transmission input for the motor with the help of a pregearing stage patented by BMW. With the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system also on board, the new BMW 550e xDrive Touring powers from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds.
Adding a third fully electric model variant to the line-up, the new BMW i5 xDrive40 Touring (electric power consumption, combined: 20.5 – 17.9 kWh/100 km in the WLTP cycle; CO2 emissions: 0 g/km in the WLTP cycle; CO2 class(es): A; range: 452 – 520 km [281 – 323 miles]) combines one highly integrated electric drive unit at the front axle and one at the rear axle to create electric all-wheel drive and channel system output of up to 290 kW/394 hp and peak torque of 590 Nm (435 lb-ft) to the road. The new BMW i5 xDrive40 Touring accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.5 seconds on the way to a top speed of 215 km/h (134 mph). Its high-voltage battery produces 81.2 kWh of usable energy. The Combined Charging Unit of the new BMW i5 xDrive40 Touring enables AC charging at a rate of up to 11 kW as standard and up to 22 kW as an option. This enables DC charging at fast-charging stations at up to 205 kW.
From November 2024, both the BMW 5 Series Touring and BMW 5 Series Sedan will be available in the exterior colour shade BMW Individual Frozen Portimao Blue metallic and further BMW Individual paint finishes, such as BMW Malachite Green II metallic. In cars with the M Sport package and additional Comfort Package, M multifunction seats for the driver and front passenger – trimmed e.g. in Merino leather Black – will increase comfort in everyday driving and over longer-distance journeys. A new addition to the options list for the BMW 5 Series Touring and examples of the BMW 5 Series Sedan specified with the panoramic glass sunroof is the M Alcantara Anthracite headlining, which accentuates the sporty, premium ambience of the interior.
Increased charging power for selected plug-in-hybrid models.
All plug-in-hybrid versions of the BMW 5 Series and the BMW X5 xDrive50e (petrol and electric power consumption – weighted, combined: 30.7 – 26.3 kWh/100 km and 1.2 – 0.8 l/100 km [235.4 – 353.1 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions weighted, combined: 28 – 19 g/km in the WLTP cycle; fuel consumption with discharged battery: 10.5 – 9.0 l/100 km [26.9 – 31.4 mpg imp] in the WLTP cycle; CO2 classes: with discharged battery G; weighted, combined B) and new BMW M5 Sedan (petrol and electric power consumption – weighted, combined: 26.8 – 25.0 kWh/100 km and 1.9 – 1.6 l/100 km [148.7 – 176.6 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions weighted, combined: 43.0 – 36.0 g/km in the WLTP cycle; fuel consumption with discharged battery: 10.7 – 10.2 l/100 km [26.4 – 27.7 mpg imp] in the WLTP cycle; CO2 classes: with discharged battery G; weighted, combined B) now benefit from higher AC charging rates. The increase from 7.4 kW previously to 11 kW now enables users to replenish the high-voltage battery of their cars in a significantly shorter time.
It will now be possible to charge the battery in the BMW X5 xDrive50e from 0 to 100 per cent within three hours, while the 0 to 100 per cent charging times for the BMW M5 and plug-in-hybrid variants of the BMW 5 Series will be reduced by an hour to 2 hours 15 minutes. This allows the cars’ potential for locally emission-free everyday driving to be utilised even more effectively and flexibly.
New Remote Software Upgrades, improved key release options, video streaming and in-car gaming across a wider selection of BMW models.
New and improved functions will be made available for current BMW models in autumn 2024 via Remote Software Upgrades, and installed in the car over-the-air. The features involved will be selected specifically for the model variant, vehicle specification and BMW Operating System version at hand. Also optimised is the scope for sharing the BMW Digital Key / BMW Digital Key Plus with additional users. To this end, the “Sharing in a Chain” function will now be available. This enables the key to be released with graduated rights and by users with shared keys.
In autumn 2024, innovative entertainment in the form of video streaming and in-car gaming on the control display will be added to examples of the BMW X5, BMW X6, BMW X7, BMW XM, BMW iX and BMW 7 Series luxury sedan produced since July 2023. Among the features included will be a constantly expanding number of streaming services. This offering also enables a form of in-car gaming unique in the automotive sector as part of a collaboration with the AirConsole platform. The driver and passengers can spend any downtime they have in the car when it is stationary by playing casual games. They only need their smartphone, which will serve as a controller. The continuously growing portfolio of playable titles includes racing, sports and quiz games – such as “Pictionary”, which will be offered from December 2024. These streaming and gaming options can be added from the BMW ConnectedDrive Store and installed with ease over-the-air.
Fuel payments from the car, more user-friendly selection of charging stations with BMW Operating System 9.
In cars with BMW Operating System 9, fuelling and charging from public charging stations is now even easier and more convenient – thanks to the latest additions to the optional BMW Digital Premium offering. At all participating filling stations, customers in Germany can now pay for their fuel digitally from their cars. With a single click, the new fuel payments app locates fuel stations nearby that support this functionality. And when searching for filling stations via BMW Maps, a check mark can be set for online payment – regardless of whether route guidance is activated. When the refuel is complete, the amount of fuel taken and the cost of the fuel are displayed on the control display. The balance can then be paid easily using the credit card stored in the My BMW App or vehicle menu.
Furthermore, BMW Operating System 9 makes searching for public charging stations for fully electric and plug-in-hybrid models simpler as well. A new “quick filter” allows users to select their desired charging station with extra speed and ease. In addition, charging stations can now also be filtered according to preferred operators. Plus, stations with restricted access are also shown, as is more detailed information on the chosen location.
Now even more attractive: the Comfort Package for the BMW X1 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.
Drivers in the premium compact segment can now look forward to offering their front passenger improved comfort over longer distances. Indeed, the updated Comfort Package for the BMW X1 and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer will also enhance the well-being of their “co-driver” from autumn 2024. This package will now include electric seat adjustment and active seats for both the driver and the front passenger.
The sporty appearance of the BMW X2 M35i xDrive (fuel consumption, combined: 8.3 – 7.7 litres/100 km [34.0 – 36.7 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions, combined: 187 – 175 g/km in the WLTP cycle; CO2 classes: G – F) can now be emphasised to particularly striking effect by specifying the exclusive 21-inch M light-alloy wheels with bi-colour finish. These have a Y-spoke design and are fitted with sport tyres.
