Currently, 5,000 people in France have requested the services of lawyers. They are available online on the initiative of Me Christophe Lèguevaques, to try to find an amicable solution initially and go to court if necessary.

The majority of the 5,000 dissatisfied customers wanted financial compensation. “Stellantis let us understand that it was possible, then preferred alternative solutions such as covering repairs, extending the warranty and then possibly issuing a certificate that the engine was in good working order,” explains Me Lèguevaques.

There, the 5,000 disgruntled motorists split into two roughly equal groups. 2,500 V.I.N. numbers (international vehicle identification number) were communicated to Stellantis which must, in response, make proposals by October 30, 2024. “We will then see if the owners are satisfied”

For the other 2,500 owners, an exploratory procedure was initiated consisting of asking Stellantis to communicate quality service reports or information on the vehicles. Some documents have been communicated, others not. “If Stellantis maintains this position, we will seek the information in court within the framework of an evidentiary summary”.

In total, estimates Christophe Lèguevaques, 500,000 vehicles are potentially equipped with this Puretech 1.2 engine in Europe, i.e. a good part of the vehicles in the Stellantis range (which includes the Opel, Peugeot, Citroën or Fiat brands in particular) from 2013 to 2020. And potentially 250,000 in France.

“We deal with the first 5,000 first, but 3,000 new dissatisfied clients are knocking on the door, not counting law firms from Belgium, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands who have also contacted us “.

The case concerns current or former owners of new or used vehicles, immobilized or not, whether or not they have been recalled by Stellantis.

Me Lèguevaques and Sébastien Czerniak, (who raised the alarm before creating the Facebook group bringing together some 40,000 people today), will be present this Thursday, September 26, 2024 and will answer questions from dissatisfied motorists. The meeting is at 7:30 p.m., Salle Pellevoisin, 164 rue de Leers in Roubaix.
